We are stitching Jody Valentine’s Tulip Heart ornament. If you subscribe to Needlepoint Now, it is in the January/February 2011 issue. You may download the pattern from Jody’s blog as it is free. Here is the link – http://jodydesigns.typepad.com/jodyinthestudio/2011/02/page/2/ to download it.
If you would like to purchase the painted canvas, Eleanor has some canvases. They cost $30 and include beads and ribbon. Eleanor, also, has copies of the the magazine available for $6.00. Fran has some color copies available for .40.
The sample heart is stitched on 18 count canvas, but you can do it on another count canvas or linen. You can silk threads, floss or other threads.
Both evening and day groups will be learning Finishing Techniques. You will be finishing a piece of needlework into either a frame, ornament, stand up, or a box. You will need to sign up for this and advise which technique you are choosing so that our teachers can be prepared to help you.
is a stitch-in at the Manlius Library. Bring in something you are working on and spend time stitching.
Both day and evening groups will be working on a crewel project taught by Terry Mullen. This is a small project featured in the June 2010 NeedleArts magazine. We will be stitching the “Field Flower” on page 35. The materials list is in the magazine, but here is the list again: - 2 pieces of lightweight cotton (I used bleached muslin), color of your choice. The pattern should be drawn on one piece of fabric, and the fabric should be large enough to fit in your hoop or on stretcher bars. You may reduce or enlarge the pattern to your preference. - Sharp needles - DMC #s 153, 155, 520, 522, 524, 745. PLEASE NOTE: These colors and fibers are only suggestions. You may wish to use crewel wool, silk, etc. from your stash. - Original magazine This is a beginning crewel project, and we will be doing several kinds of stitches, which are nicely diagrammed in the magazine.
Both groups will be working on the Ball and Bead Ornament. This project will be kitted for your convenience. The cost is $10.00 and includes the ball (choice of two sizes), beading thread, beading needle, all beads for the project and a colored copy of the original pattern. A color choice of silver with silver or gold with red is available. The pattern is in the October 2004 issue of Bead and Button magazine. A copy will be included for each person taking the class.
See updates to Programs and Calendar of Events pages. I’ve also updated the Past Program page to show 2010 programs.
See our exciting programs for next year!
Both groups will work on Hardanger, Part II. We will be preparing the Hardanger medallion for the filling patterns to be taught in October. This means cutting threads, so bring your small, sharp scissors and your confidence!! You must have the Kloster Blocks completed before you cut. If you are doing the Algerian Eyes and/or the beading as indicated on the chart, these must be completed also. Once you cut it is very difficult to add these elements. If you plan on using any of the other patterns on the outside of the medallion, these can be completed after the cutting as long as you are careful.
Both evening and day meetings will work on a Four-Way Bargello Project. The evening group’s project will be taught by Pat W-S. This is a small piece to learn Four-Way Bargello on 18-count canvas. The canvas is going to be visible, so please choose a color that you like and that works with your fibers. The size of the canvas should be 7” x 7” and should be mounted on stretcher strips before the class. A total of five fibers are needed; using fibers from your stash; please pick one metallic and the rest of the fibers are your choice. The pattern will be passed out at the June Banquet to those who have signed up. For those of you who will not be at the dinner, you may choose all floss, etc., but it is more interesting to choose different fibers for the diversity of texture. The fibers the pattern calls for are: Frosty Rays, Neon Rays, Silk & Cream, Fyre Werks Soft Sheen and Very Velvet. Please feel free to substitute with fibers of your choice.
